We expect much from our prayers, even though we do not have right intention or attitude for the same. Everything about the meditation or prayer to remember our Creator is just a ritual confined to mechanical recitation of the mantras, either read out verbatim or through memory. It is loud and showy. Even donation offered is wanted to be announced in religious congregation on a PA system. Is there any sacredness attached in this? Or is it a mere show to show others that one is very religious. This sort of prayer or meditation to propitiate God is not understood.
Secondly, only certain days are fixed for different deities. People throng in that particular day in front of that deity and that deity is just left out on other days as if His importance has diminished on those days.
The Dharshan of the deity is also reserved for some known fellows or VIPs/VVIPs. The others hapless are looked after and told to ‘go out’ and not allowed to have Dharshan. I have been subjected to such treatment by the temple priests many a times. Even yesterday, I was turned request for a Dharshan of the Sai Baba was turned down at one of the known temples. I got disappointed at the treatment meted out to me but could not do anything since I am a commoner in front of those VIPs/VVIPs. In the Altars of even God, some get second rated action by the ‘powers that be’ in the corridors of our Creator.
God save me from these very important figure-heads you have created. I have only read that in the eyes of our Lord, there is no discrimination. Pauper or the king is given the same treatment. But is it so really?
Importantly, it is a travesty of fact that our Creator takes ten steps if we venture to take even a single one. But that single step should be taken with right earnest. No show offs, I imagine, otherwise your prayers would be an exercise in futility – a puzzle which has to be resolved once for all if you want to know about your Creator and be with Him ever and ever.
