JUST FORGET IT!

JUST FORGET IT!

Life is a weird and wonderful paradox. Weird because so many events take place without any prior warning. Wonderful because some of the most favourable events take place which you least expect.

Many of the happenings /incidences / events just take place in our lives which may or may not be of our liking – happen when we least expect those to happen! Sometimes we remain stuck to those happenings though we ought to have forgotten them as bad dreams. These may be in connection with your own dear ones to whom you have helped but now ditched when you required them the most.

Even your friends, your own possessions earned earnestly, your own body tended with care and caution, et al could fail you any time. If anybody or anything you hold indispensable, just does not come to your assistance when you require the most, you should not lament – JUST FORGET IT Care Not Even Two Hoots about these and start life afresh with vigour.

Why care about anything or anybody becaue our own Creator is always there to provide and meet our demands if and when we want Him in our life. Anytime we need His assistance we can fall back on this UNFAILING FRIEND. Yes! He is more near to us than we are near to our own body. Just seek His help and it will be provided straightaway.
Nothing happens without a purpose. If a job in hand is done with a missionary zeal and positive frame of mind, end result will surely be positive. Dynamism pays in the long run. Attitude counts and positive one brings highest dividends.

Let’s take the example of a student who attends all the lectures in school, pays special attention to the instructions imparted in school, makes concerted efforts in repeating the whole lot of the curriculum taught in school. He does not leave anything to chance. That student’s result will surely be outstanding. Thence forth, if he is obedient to his parents and teachers, acts upon their sagacious advice, he will grow up to be a successful person – a person who will be adaptive to any situation in which he is put in.

Take another example of a hard working farmer; who takes care of tilling his fields, sowing high yielding seeds, puts manure / fertilizers to the plants, waters his crops at appropriate time, guards the crops from rodents / birds, harvests his crop with utmost care, et al He will surely get a bumper crop as a reward of his hard labour. He, thus, leaves no stone unturned in farming and consequently gets optimum results. If the nature too is pleased with him, his crops may get rain and that is an extra icing on his cake! Thus he feels at the Seventh Heaven at the bountiful results. And why not, he has worked for it all.

Now, take the case of the student. If despite hard work and utmost sincerity, if his luck brings him to a situation from where it is difficult to come out then what? Like there has occurred an incident (natural or manmade) at his home front from where it is difficult to pull out. Now options left for are:-

• Fall prey to the beggaries of time and perish with it.

• Let go / forget it all and start afresh.

In the second instance, notwithstanding the hard work put in by the famer and complying with all the requisites of farming, if unexpected blizzard ruins his ripe crops then what? He too has two options:-

• Fall prey to the beggaries of natural elements and perish with it.

• Let go / forget it all and start afresh.

JUST FORGET IT!

Who told forgetting is NOT BAD?
Forgetting the loved ones,
Ye tendered with utmost care once,
Sheltering him while withstanding more,
The sun’s glare of the summer noon without demure.
A friend who banked on you,
In thick and thin every now and then,
Thee met his needs when called for,
Whence ye need him the most,
He shows ye his back,
JUST FORGET IT.

A weapon which you oiled much,
For your safety from agents inimical,
Out of the blue it failed,
When ye needed it the most,
JUST FORGET IT.

Your earnings in the bank,
Bankrolled in the account book,
But when needed in crisis,
Failed thy want test.
JUST FORGET IT.

Thy own bodily reflexes,
On cues of which you prided the most,
Fail you,
When situation demanded utmost,
JUST FORGET IT.

A bad dream coming true,
Badly impacts thy day’s routine,
JUST FORGET IT.

A stranger who shows ye,
The way amidst thy bad patch,
Just embrace him,
With all his baggage.
DO NOT FORGET IT.

USE OF REFINED LANGUAGE

USE OF REFINED LANGUAGE

How we speak makes difference? To know a language, and how best to use while interacting with others are two different aspects. Whenever we are addressing somebody, we have to be self aware that the use of words ought not offend others. Just introspection for a while will save many a blushes afterwards and help avoid ripples in our relationships. It is mere jugglery with the words. If the words and phrases could be combined judiciously, refined, civilized and sometimes polished words spoken could be of help.  Many of the peculiar saved if we just think before speak.

For keeping healthy relationships, speaking politely, selecting the right words, never forgetting the sensitivities of others, et al are important. Just thinking, if vulgar words / language is directed at us, what impact the same may cause to us?

Two case histories are given below:-

In the first instance, while purchasing the ticket from the ticket collector in DTC bus, I was appalled when the conductor of the bus curtly asked me ‘o tu ticket le’ (O there you, take ticket). What a sweeping use of language. When inquired, why he was using this rude language he simply retorted, without reservation: ‘men ne esi hi language seekhi hey aur esi hi istemal karta hun pasant karo ya na muje keya (‘I have learnt this sort of language, use this type of language, like it or not, I do not care’) . May be his behavior pattern is due to his parents stringent financial condition due to which he could not get right education and consequently not civilized manner of use of language.

In the second instance, there is another case history of a person in our office. Due to his close proximity, I can vividly relate his case:

  • Who has attained formal education due to his well-off family background,
  • He has attended training courses in public speaking.
  • Who has attained good position and standing in the office due adequate education and a bit of luck.

His style of functioning in the office is worst to say the least. He abuses his subordinates, colleagues and sometimes his seniors, picks up quarrels at flimsy pretext, is past master at back biting / back stabbing but in presence of the person concerned, he uses all sorts of refined language! I ventured to ask him about peculiar behavior pattern, while he was in good mood. He shot back: ‘Why I should tell?’. These four words speak volumes about his state of mindset. He was helped financially by his parents but not given their quality time for the refinement of his innate tendencies. This is the reason why he remains boiling from inside, resulting in debilitating diseases like high blood pressure, obesity, heart ailments and what not and remains busy in popping one medicine after another.

The above two instances go to show that if we want that our children behave well with others; it is paramount that we, as parents or older members give our children quality time:

  • Assist them imbibe positive mindset with traits such as compassion, pity, piety, kindness.
  • Help them remove from their system negative traits such as anger, greed, rancor, backbiting.
  • Help our children as to how to conduct themselves while interacting with others. Public speaking calls for use of appropriate words at appropriate time for maximum result. Better remain silent rather than make others offensive.

The above is instance of use of language used by the uncouthed worker who did not get right education from the parents as they themselves were illiterate. Also, he did not get opportunity to get formal or informal instructions because of his family background.

We may come across such and many glaring examples of misuse or disuse of language. Be that as it may, we have to go deep into it and see that use of the language is used with discretion.

It is not merely use of language but the modulation in the use of language is also counted.

We have to see that our children use correct and civilized words and win goodwill and respect in return not only for themselves but also  for us as parents. People certainly appreciate one who uses right words at right places and make impact on others.

ON KEEPING PROMISES

ON KEEPING PROMISES

It is important to reflect as to where we stand while KEEPING OUR PROMISES. We also make promises on a throw of a hat and woefully forget the other day on flimsy pretext or no pretext at all. This leads us to think of the ancient, most virtuous King of Ayodhya named Harishchandra, who, for keeping promise lost his everything; his prosperous kingdom, his family (consisting of wife and son) and even himself ultimately. In our daily lives.  we come across following instances:-

·       Promises made by our Politicians. We are witness to the flurry of promises made by the political class to their electorates at the time of elections. They promise to make their lives comfortable by improving the law and order situation, improving the sanitary condition of their localities,  improving the economical conditions of the people by providing them meaningful employment, controlling the price rise by controlling inflation, et al. In other words, it could better be said that these people promise to bring moon on the earth for the people! But when these very people are elected as the  representatives; do they keep their promises? More often than not their viewpoint is: ‘Promises are made to be broken. Well people know the answer. Some become inaccessible after their election to say the least!

·       Promises made by the Parents to their Wards.  In some cases, parents make different promises to their children but when the time comes for the fulfillment of the same they just give excuses for non-fulfillment. Anyone can well imagine the plight and the mental state of the child concerned whose parents have failed keeping the promise and did not think necessary to explain to the hapless child the reasons for not keeping the promise? It should never be forgotten that our children follow us to the letter. If we, as parents fail to fulfill promise, the children in turn too will do the same in their daily lives – not to respect their promises. Ultimately, the concerned parents will feel the pinch. Hence the parents will have to introspect deeply while making promises in the first place.

·       Promises made by the Dharma Gurus. What we preach to the common people, we should promise to follow the same to the book.  In real life, we have woefully observed that many a times, our Dharma Guru breach without a second thought the very principle of morality which they loudly preach to others? This way, general people lose belief not only on their preachers but also the religion in general. This paradox is more relevant today than ever.

·       Promises by the Teacher. Teachers are held in high esteem in the society. They are termed as Gurus and can have a far reaching impression on the child. Whatever is taught by them has indelible impression on them. Hence the teachers should always respect the promises they make to their students / pupils. This way, they will not only earn the respect of the students but also goodwill of the general people.

·       Promise by Parties in Business Contract.  In business transactions, contracts are signed by the parties concerned in order to follow some commitments to the letter. Sometimes, it has legal implications. Any transgression or breaking the terms of the agreement / contract may lead to abrogation of agreement / promised deal.

·       Solemn Promise to the Creator. Then sometimes, we to make solemn promises to our Creator and vow not to commit sin, not to follow corruptive path, not to lie, not to resort toanger, not to hanker after worldly possessions, not to breach the trust of others, et al and adopt all the positive qualities in life.

PROMISES TO BE MADE

In life we are bound by,

The limits of laws and bye-laws,

And some norms held dear by society at large,

And the principles sacrosanct for all,

Under which we have to keep confined,

And a pledge once made,

We are constrained,

To be fulfilled.

Promises made galore,

By the representatives of people –  and still more,

Too much of rhetoric,

For votes during election,

Woefully forgetting everything after their selection.

Some people do not respect the norms,

Set by the society in actual form,

Even vows made in the marriage,

Alas are not respected by some couples,

Adopt shortcuts to bye-pass,

The commitments made in right earnest.

IMPLICIT UNDERSTANDING / ADJUSTMENT

IMPLICIT UNDERSTANDING / ADJUSTMENT

This morning, while I entered the metro bogie, it was full to its capacity with motley crowd – with different impressions on the faces of people; some somber, some composed / self-possessed and others self possessed. Only thing that was unfortunately missing was the smile! One was, perforce, pressing against the another as if in tacit understanding of adjustment with each other being the ultimate motto. But surprisingly, everybody was making effort to adjust / accommodate each other. No hard feelings, no arguments if some indiscretion results inadvertently. If any ensues, others in the crowd just intervene and sort things out. Some people come for new journey and others just finish theirs reaching their respective journeys. What a sweet lesson we get out of this journey?

This  tacit bonhomie attitude could be made applicable at the following places too:-

  • Adjustment at Home. In the joint family, we have all members with diverse age group. Some are dependent on others and others are independent.  Each one of them looks after one another’s welfare. If one member feels pain, others members experience the pinch of it and try their maximum in ameliorating the condition. Accommodation in everyway is the name of the game. This is with respect of joint families. In nuclear families too, this accommodation can work wonders. Both the spouses can forget and forgive each others’ mistakes even grievous ones too for the sake of leading a peaceful life, not for each other but for the sake of future of their children as well.

  • Understanding in the Workplace. In the office, we see that everybody is not of the similar intelligence/capacity/capacity. There are the go-getters and there are the ones who have to be taken along. Here too understanding each others’ requirement is needed for overall  performance of the office. Sometimes special training in skills enhancement has to be imparted to a section of employees for their optimizing their performance so that they can pull on with those who are proficient.

  • Adjustment in the Community.   It is the age of accommodation in order to get our tasks accomplished. Suppose we want to get some sanitary work to be done for the community, if all are exhibiting their cooperation, and present their case to the authorities that be, things can move fast. Contrarily, if one person is pulling in one direction and the other one to other, things will not be sorted out and the problem will remain pestering. This way the community will feel the pinch of it.
  • Adjustment in the Society Level. There are many drawbacks in the society such as; corruption, dowry system, treatment on the basis of caste, creed and colour, etc. All these could be eradicated from the society by personal understanding of the society in general.  Here accommodation /understanding and respecting each other is a must. Here formation of the expert committee amongst the citizenry is called for so that they represent the society and suggest ways and means to eradicate the drawbacks and make those applicable sincerely. Joint actions result in the best results. Here understanding each others’ viewpoints is the game changer.

  • Adjustment in the Country Level. All the people of the country, without discrimination ought to work for ensuring the unity and  integrity of the country concerned.  Endeavour should be made that the country is made free of corruption and other fault-lines and a country which respects the unity of other countries.

  • Adjustment in the World Level. All the countries of the world should have tacit understanding for respecting the laws of other countries as they respect their own ones.

  • Implicit understanding with our Creator. There ought to be tacit understanding between the worshipper (bhagat) and our Creator. Firstly, He helps in getting ridding all the dormant negative traits and subsequently infuse all the positive ones on our system. Having done this, He always resides in us till eternity and bestows in us the equanimity in every occasion. Amen.

SHARE YOUR MATERIAL POSSESSIONS & KNOWLEDGE

SHARE YOUR MATERIAL POSSESSIONS

& KNOWLEDGE

It is an open secret that we are constrained to get the share of profit or loss, good or bad, praise or blame, success or failure, happiness or sadness commensurate with the amount of hard work / attention we pay for getting the work in hand fructified. Lackadaisical attitude towards work culture brings in its wake lackluster results.   In other words, if we sow thorns, we will get the crop of thorns only. It cannot be the crop of life saving cereals anyhow.

Whilst transacting our actions the knowledge precepts given in Bhagwath Gita should always be taken as a beacon of light: that we ought to perform the SHARE of our action without caring for result of our action.

However, at times, our Karmic Surplus Account {which may be partly due to current birth and partly owing to the previous birth(s)} may also influence the outcome of our SHARE of our fortune. Karmic Deficit Account may reduce the chances of our success in an endeavour.  In this case, however hard we may try, the end result may not be very encouraging.

Sincerity in our actions is a must in order to get optimum results and those results which one gets would be wholly satisfying and morally pragmatic; producing a lovable tinge of lightness in our heart.  The sheer emotional fulfillment which it will engender would raise us on moral pedestal and that is more than anything else in this world.

Similar is the case with acquiring knowledge (Jnana/gyan) for self awareness. If we have the right attitude and right spirit in acquiring knowledge then sure enough our efforts will yield results may be slowly but definitely. And we can have knowledge on different facets of life; viz: religious and spiritualknowledge, establish relationship of philosophy with science, religion, economics and many other subjects.  A person with varied and rich awareness can make difference in the society in which he / she is living.  Such people are the priceless gifts of our Creator.

Having acquired our SHARE of material possessions earned by hard work, sufficient to meet our daily needs and SHARE of inclusive knowledge, we could be termed as fortunate.

o  Material Prosperity. We should share the materials we possess with our fellow needy brethren to alleviate their financial stringency.  Maan Lakshmi opens Her Treasures for those who SHARE their possessions with the needy ones.

o  Knowledge Base (Jnana/Gyan) Abundance. The knowledge we have attained from different sources will stagnate if it is not disseminated / imparted  to the needy people. It should never be forgotten that knowledge multiplies as we divide it. Maan Saraswathi bestows / opens Her continuous flow of jnana/gyan from Her Limitless Ocean / Treasure to a person who SHARES GYAN with the fellow beings.

o  One has to shoulder his / her SHARE of responsibilities at home, in the workplace, in the society et al. The one who performs it with aplomb is assigned more responsibilities and status and with it one garners admiration for same.

With this intention in mind, I have penned down a poem titled SHARE. Kindly go through and comment to increase my knowledge base.   I, if truth be told, love your comments.

SHARE

Share what you have in abundance,

Your good fortunes with unfortunates,

Who could have been there where you stand today perchance.

Aspire for more than your fair share,

Means resorting to means so shady,

Undue share is tainted and dishonesty laced,

Moral-fiber is tarnished with acts stained,

Resulting in night sleep spoiled.

Amount of hard work you put in,

Decides the amount of your share in the pie,

Reward is in consonance with your try,

Lower your efforts,

Lesser the returns.

Enlightened ones give their share of votes,

To the honest representatives,

Who meet their aspirations,

Door is shown to selfish and self-seekers.

Sharing knowledge makes us wiser in return,

Gives us knack of differentiation,

Resulting in sharpened intuition,

Preventing sinister animal in us to act with caution.

Happy moments ought to be shared,

Partaken with open hands the ones so sad,

Sharing moments good and bad,

Also sharing equally happiness and pains,

Creating zest for life for each in the bargains.

Our share will not spare us even after our death,

Good karmic deeds will reward us Heaven,

And bad ones the hell dungeon,

Reward of good deeds is bed of roses,

Bed of thorns for evil deeds,

This way even our soul will have to endure,

The affects of good or bad Karma.
