To be a better person, one has to understand who is a better person. I opine, a better person is the one who is having the following traits:-
WISDOM TO FIND DIFFERENCE
Such a person attains knowledge through self-efforts with utmost sincerity. After attaining know-how, he/she uses it with level-headedness with an intention that it is not knowledge attained which counts much but how best to use the same counts – wisdom to find difference.
Wisdom contained in Bhagvad Gita it has been rightly said: Whatever happened in the past, it happened for the good; whatever is happening, is happening for the good; whatever shall happen in the future, shall happen for the good only. Do not weep for the past; do not worry for the future, concentrate on your present life.
TRUSTWORHY IN THE BEHAVIOUR
Such a person is trusted by all those who come in contact with him/her as the person concerned knows that trust is earned over a period of time but could be lost in seconds. Dealing with a trustworthy person brings about good atmospheric and wholesome feeling.
It has been rightly said in Bhagwad Gita: Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.
HUMBLE/HUMILITY AS THE TRAIT IN LIFE
Despite having everything that a person aspires for in life, such a person never shows off and is humble to the core. A person is truthful, egoless, non-violent besides such a person is not attached to the fruits of action etc.
In Bhagwad Gita it has been rightly said: Humbleness; freedom from hypocrisy; non-violence; forgiveness; simplicity; service of the Guru; cleanliness of body and mind; steadfastness; and self-control; dispassion toward the objects of the senses; absence of egotism; keeping in mind the evils of birth, disease, old age, and death; non-attachment; absence of clinging to spouse, children, home, and so on; even-mindedness amidst desired and undesired events in life; constant and exclusive devotion toward Me; an inclination for solitary places and an aversion for mundane society; constancy in spiritual knowledge; and philosophical pursuit of the Absolute Truth—all these I declare to be knowledge, and what is contrary to it, I call ignorance.
GENUINENESS IN THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS
A better person’s bona fides are unwavering and cannot change his/her perspective in any circumstances or in any situation or event. Such a person is courageous and need no fear at all in any event.
A person with good traits discusses his/her points of views coolly giving points of difference without being argumentive since nobody has ever won an argument. Argument leads us to nowhere because it leads to difference of opinions rather than cohesiveness and a feeling of unity in diversity.
HUMOUR A PART OF LIFE
A better person is not always serious but adopts humour as and when required as a diversion in order to assuage the stressed emotions. We should learn more from small children who laugh more than the adults. If we make humour a part of our life, we can work in any situation without any stress.
