Legend behind observance of this day.
There is a legend when both Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya (Both the sons of Shivas and Goddess Parvati) were doing their best to provide safety to Devatas against the ferocious demons. Both wanted to showcase their love, respect for their revered parents. Lord Shiva wanted to test their intensity of respect for them. The challenge was thrown to Ganesha and Kartikeya; they were asked to perform one revolution around the Earth and whosoever performs the revolution around the earth would be considered as the winner. They were allowed to use their respective mode of transportation: Lord Ganesha his mouse (Chuha) and Lord Kartikeya mor (Peacock).
The race started. All the Gods and Demi-Gods witnessed the race with highest excitement because the winner was to be construed as having more reverence for their parents and also the saver.
While Lord Karrikeya on the back of peacock was fast enough and was away from the sight instantly whereas the mouse was very slow and covered very less distance.
Suddenly Lord Ganesha veered his vahan around and started taking a round around Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati while they were watching the race. He completed the revolution in a very short span of time and paid his respects to both Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati.
It took quite a bit of time for Lord Kartikeya to have a complete revolution around the earth.
After this, the winner was to be declared. Lord Ganesha had taken one revolution around his parents while Lord Kartikeya took revolution around the entire earth.
Lord Shiva asked the reason for his decision to take one revolution around them. Lord Ganesha being the mast of intellect and reasoning mentioned that he considered that all the universe lies in LORD SHIVA AND Goddess Parvati therefore, according to him, taking one revolution around them is sufficient and more than equivalent to the revolution of Earth. All agreed on this and Lord Ganesha was declared as the winner.
This proves that whosoever worships with sincerity will be blessed by Lord Ganesha and other Devatas, therefore, on this day too LORD GANESHA is worshipped with immense reverence for getting his bounties and graces.
MAY LORD GANESHA AND MAA SAKAT’S GRACES REMAIN ON ALL OF US FOR PEACE, PROSPERITYAND HAPPINESS.
