HARYALI TEEJ – MAY LORD SHIVA AND MAA PARVATI GRACE US WITH GOOD HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Today is being celebrated as HARYALI TEEJ. Haryali means greenery. Greenery is life-giving and health giving. When it is health-giving, It is also associated with health and wellness, productivity, well-being of an individual. When we talk of greenery, our mind is diverted to good health and prosperity and peaceful existence.
Importantly, when Haryali or Greenery is associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, then, this day’s importance becomes all the more significant. The women folks observe fast for long life of their husbands besides health and prosperity of their entire family.
Today’s occasion is considered more auspicious and promising since this day is associated with the sacred meeting again or getting-together of Lord Shiva with Maa Parvati on this day. This day is celebrated in the Shrawan month in Shukala Paksha when greenery pervades everywhere and provides us a feeling of wellness.
This day is particularly very auspicious for married couples. The women folks observe fast, worship Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati for the safety, protection and long life of their husbands.
The women folks worship Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati along with Lord Ganesha (who is associated with wellness and prosperity) with utmost devotion and enthusiasm after sanctification of the place where the pictures of these deities are kept.
The devotees also visit Shiva and Parvati temples and chant Mantras in praise of the deities for earning their graces for the peace, prosperity and wellness of their families. The offerings to the Lord Shiva are bel patra, datura, berries etc. and then sing songs in praise of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This makes the environment electrifying and more propitious for the devotees.
May Lord Shiva, Mass Parvati and Lord Ganesha bestow us and the members of our family peace, prosperity, sound health and wellness. The graces of our Lord is required more now than ever because of dire situation created by Covid-19 pandemic.
