How to make stronger connection with my spirituality?

I was not raised with any religion/philosophy. Now that I am older, the world moves so fast and I feel so lost sometimes. I want to connect with my inner self so that I can live peacefully, because inside I feel so lonely sometimes.
I want to know what do you think are some good tips for starting out a religion/philosophy by myself.

Additional Details

I was thinking Eastern religion

You may not have been raised in any religious philosophy. It is in your favour. You are like a moist raw earth to which you can mould that in whatever form you want. I will not say you to follow a particular religion but whatever you follow, follow that with all sincerity. And for that you have to start refining your own self. The following steps should be taken:-
1/ Know thyself First. The first and formost thing is to know yourself before you delve into spiritulity. 2/ To know yourself just rid yourself of any negative feelings for others. 3/ Have belief. Self beiief is a must. If you just recite some prayer, have belief that it is being reeived by your Creator. Mind you, our Creator is very benevolent, if you put one step, He will put ten to reach you. Sure enough, do it practically and see the difference. 4/ Make your Prayer Very Simple. Do not utter high sounding or high profile mantras / prayers. What He appreciates is your sincerity in prayer and not the complexity which may confuse you and as well as your Creator. 5/ Never Doubt. Kindly do not doubt whether your prayer is being heard or not. It will certainly be heard if you believe that you are honest in your prayer. 6/ Time. It is not that you will get result very soon. It may take sometime. Our Lord wants to test us that how long and how much you can seek Him and see He always is there with you while you are seeking Him. 7/ When in Peace. Remember whenever you are at peace with yourself, it means our Lord is with you. 8/ Love others as you love yourself. Never hate others. 9/ Shun ego. 10/ Do some welfare activities for others in need.

“Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allah sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs, etc.) for people of understanding.”
    [Qur’an 2:164]
You mean you want to start your own religion, or find one that makes the most sense to you and gives you internal peace and happiness?
I’d say look through all the different religions, feel free to email me if you wish to know more about Islam :).
None of the eastern religions really connect you with God if that’s what you’re looking for.

In my humble experience, religion is a dead end, and only leads a person into bondage with all the ‘do’ and ‘don’t’ lists. Jesus Christ explained what eternal life is – “that you know God, and Jesus Christ whom He sent.” The more my relationship with the Lord grows, the greater sense of peace, freedom, and fulfillment I find. Joining Him in His work by reaching out to those in need (of any sort) and by encouraging others gives me a purpose for living. If I can draw even one person closer to the greatest source of love I’ve ever known, then I am content!

Praising Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life!

Kindly accept my sincere thanks for giving your most appropriate comment as to what we should seek in our life.
Religion I take as a path to reach to the Source. It may be any religion. Paths may be different but the Source is the same – our CREATOR. For Christ Consciousness we have to understand our own conscious self for self realization. When this happens we do not differentiate between any religion i.e. all lead us to a Eternal Love – Eternal Being (GOD).
When Christ Consciousness dawns one feels equanimity both in peace and war; hot or cold climes; happiness or disappoint etc. On reaching this coveted destination we are embeded with positive traits. We are compassionate towards all; have sufficient pity/piety; empathy et al. This is also called establishing our true relationship/connectivity with our own CREATOR.

This is a helpful post. While I am irreligious, knowing yourself, loving others, etc. is a path to a healthy mind and life. Thank you for posting it.

A person may be irreligious, but self awareness, loving others are important. When we are self aware, it means we are aware about others too and that is more than being religious. :))
