PERFECTION & HUMAN BEINGS
Humans are made in our Lord’s mould cannot be disputed
Special traits of differentiation are thus assigned
Which are exclusive to humans amongst all living beings
Wisdom is to use this trait without attached strings
With selfless love we have to interact with others
Not forgetting that we’ve to sincerely obey Laws of Nature
With fond love to adjust for higher mission of life
Remove weaknesses which are rife
Thus make thyself vastly sublime
By living and following a lifestyle bereft of even a shred of crime
Bestowing succor to those who require thy services
Mercy; self-restraint and tolerance are thy prized adorations
He loves action without attachment to fruits of thy actions
False ego; false pride; lust; anger touches him naught
Thence such a person is termed as perfect one
For he is self-realized; dear to our God in the Heaven.
PERFECTION IN IMPERFECTION
PARADOX OF PERFECTION – THE GREATEST PERFECTION IS IMPERFECTION. VANINI
Imperfection or ground zero situation brings into play all the inner potentialities with all the impediments coming into play while furtherance of the goal of excellence. It could be construed that a person endowed with excellence is one who has drawn out his/her innate potentiality and exploiting the environs / situations besides ample grace of our Lord play hidden part in the form of destiny in all extraordinary performances. For the perfect 10/10 one requires perfect 10/10 efforts in fact with the grace of Almighty God.
The root word for perfection is ‘perfectio’- a Latin word and word perfect is driven from a Greek word ‘perfectus’ – that which requires no improvement or is complete in all respects; requiring no add-on or the one which has no comparison – no plus or minus required whtsoever. In other words it can be established that one which has already served its purpose after it has become perfect.
With this definition of the word perfection; now contentious point is : can this state be established in humans? In human beings the word ‘excellence’ could be achieved or specialization in some art or craft could be achieved after going through different stages of development/improvement without denying the prevalence of destiny or fate in pursuing the ultimate goal.
Paradoxes of Perfection
One of the paradoxes of perfection is that it is already complete -requiring no improvement at all. Can this state be acquired/achievable in real life? Natural laws like theory of mortality; law of morality and its relationship with laws besides their applicability is universal in nature. These could be termed as perfect. We can determine perfect number with the formula : Np = 2p−1 (2p − 1): where p is the prime number. Then there are perfectly rigid bodies which break when effort is made for their deformation. But these are lifeless bodies – already ‘perfectly’ inert.
Then a question can be asked; can humans be termed as perfect? May be there are humans in unexplored planets who may be more advanced or perfect in their technological excellence or other aspects than best here on earth. On ethical standpoint it may not be required for the humans to be perfect for perfect means requiring no improvement or change but humans try improving from birth till death. Plato termed the perfection of humans as ‘good’ or approximation of the idea of perfection. Stoics viewed perfection as working in harmony with nature and reason space and time.
Relevant conditions are:-
- Technology and Human Beings. Paradox of imperfection applies to humans and technology. Today’s technology is better than yesterday’s because of research and development and tomorrow’s technologies would be more advanced due to competition in the market that prompts parties concerned to remain in sync with the time. Or there could be perfection in giving services for utility giving fullest satiety.
- Can Humans be Perfect? It has rightly been said that perfect being not wanting any improvement; meaning there cannot be any more requirement of improvement. It means it has reached a stage of saturation. After reaching saturation stage an individual starts deceleration after sometimes. It could rightly be said that humans frailties and drawbacks do not call for perfection but excellence.
- Perfection and Competitiveness. Perfectness could be attained through unstinted competition in the field of production through persistence.
- Natural Laws of Cause & Effect. LawS of nature are termed as perfect as these are universally accepted for their utility.
- Perfection in art and craft. Humans can excel in art and craft and attain excellence.
SPIRITUALITY AND PERFECTION
In spiritualism; perfect person is the one who is undefiled or without blemish besides being holy. His actions are based on righteousness. It also emphasizes humane approach towards the all the creations of our Creator. Thus perfection in spirituality is pragmatic / empirical in approach and that which brings us in close connectivity with our Creator. And a finer point in this ‘perfection’ is that it could be reached / attained through our sincere attitude and honest efforts.
In Christianity perfection is defined as : Loving your enemies bless them that curse you…………; do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile; go with him twain….Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect’. It is clear that a person could be ‘perfect’ with multitudes of characteristics such as loving everybody as we love own self. If somebody does a good turn with us we should do more for that person. We should therefore imbibe all the positive traits and shun negative ones.
Holy Quran mentions perfect persons as: Those who believe and do righteous good deeds; there is no sin on them what they at; if they fear Allah (by keeping away from His forbidden things) and believe and do righteous good deeds……and do good deeds with Ihsan (perfection).’ Righteous actions and deeds with perfection without resorting to sinful acts (negative traits) without any reservation whatsoever besides bestowing compassion and helping those needy and remaining thankful to Allah for the bounties bestowed upon us.
In Bhagwad Gita perfection is : Being purified by his intelligence and controlling the mind with determination; giving up the objects of sense gratification; being freed from attachment and hatred;……remains detached; who without false ego; false pride; lust; anger and who does not accept material things such a person is certainly elevated to the position of self-realisation.’ In Bhagwad Gita self realization is the basic aim of human beings. In other words we have to exert for self realization and that comes when we have control over our senses and remain detached from the fruits of our action besides being egoless while transacting action.
In Sikhism Perfection or Khalsa has been mentioned as: Day and night he worships the Living Light. He does not entertain any thought of duality. Perfect Love and perfect conviction adorn his personality. ….His pilgrimage will be Daan (giving) mercy; self-disciplie of tolerance and self control. He sees only the One. One God everywhere. Only when Perfect Light illuminates his heart can you call him KHALSA (PERFECT). In Sikhism perfect person is the one who One God. He has the perfect conviction; loves everybody; meets the needs of others and disciplined besides being tolerant.
